As the autumn trees opened, with thick branches and hanging leaves no longer prevented my eyes to absorb the scenery. The paved grey path, where yellow leaves had scattered along the sides of the cement had lead me to the light peach bridge. The entrance was wide as it narrowed when the cement beam to support the bridge aligned with the deck. The beam had 3 circles in it, as the largest circle was closest to the ground. It stretched across the crystal blue river, as the ripples in the water noticeable.

The sides of the bridge, let you look out at the river from all directions as there were slits at the bottom of the corners as vibrant blue from the water shown through the openings. Further along the pedestrian bridge was a larger opening on both of the sides, as the circle had steel caging through it. The steel was old; rusted where the welding of the steel was visible. Along the circle the concrete was smooth and painted, within it was rough with rocky divots and holes. The concrete inside displayed the small rocks embedded in the tough light gray cement.

Locked on the steel caging were padlocks of all kinds, a brass lock with a key locket had “M+E”, written on it with a heart drawn on it. Below was a smooth oval rock placed on the rugged concrete within the circle where it rested on the thin steel bars. It was hand painted with a base of golden, it reflected the suns light with it’s almost metallic layer. It read “Find the Beauty in the World. 2015”, with black paint as it contrasted well with the colors. Delicate and simple flowers were painted on the rock, as they varied from turquoise to pink with a yellow center. It was vivid as the bright colors painted on it, stood out from the concrete despite its size. It was crafted to stand out from the normal, as it is rare to find this in nature.

Beyond Concrete – River Writing Persuasion

Blurred clutter envelopes the city, the sound of car engines, honking and men in suits taking business calls muffle out the sound of nature. Sunshine is shielded as buildings grow and rise far above, creating shadows and covering the blue skies. Architecture is seen as appealing; clean with sharp edges and complex shapes. Yet it shall never be compared to the natural aesthetic in nature around us. The human soul needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man. We live in a manufactured world, with advanced equipment we build on the ground we stand on.

It is the age where we desire possessions of technology and new inventions as we place high value on those things. Every week day you follow a regular schedule, walking the familiar paved paths and working in the same buildings. It is typical to see people staring down at their phones at the social world, rarely gazing up to see the real world around us; nature should be recognized. Passing by oblivious, as it is uncommon to acknowledge mother nature. Caught up in social media and breaking news, we may be connected socially but your acquaintance with nature slowly fades away.

We lose interest in things easily, as our attention span is limited. All of a sudden video games and TV substitute for walks in the park and camping. We become less involved with nature, we must not forget the importance of the outdoors not only to exercise our bodies but to release stress from our mind. Sadly children are starting to look forward to playing on IPads rather then going out to bike with friends outside. Generations starting to spend more time inside as they limit themselves unable to create fun of their own and engage with nature.

With time moving so quick, day planners get us occupied as we limit our time for priorities. It is often forgotten, how astonishing and significant our world is. We rely on it more than we think, we should love our planet.  Loving means to honor and acknowledge its abundance of beauty. We should protect what we have, this life we have on earth can be so fragile. These trees where here before you and as was that river, pay your respects because this earth is the basis of your existence. Yet we spend so much energy fighting our conflict, worrying and complaining. We have ourselves convinced that our problems will consume us, despite how small we are and how insignificant our conflict is compared to this earth.

Challenge yourself to adventure in nature escape the walls concealing you and fill the void of being free. Beyond this concrete you are cemented to is the beauty in which our world exists. Take a quiet walk with mother nature, it will nurture your mind, body and soul.

Metaphor of me

I am a paintbrush,

tangible and present yet I can create masterpieces,

that only exist in my mind.

I am gentle and delicate as I glide across my canvas; my life.

I am light at heart as I am at hand

I am willing to make “mistakes” because they add to the beauty of it all.

I am capable of letting go of the past as I wash away faded pigments.

I guide each stroke with a hopeful flick in hand, as I form paths with the colors of my soul.

I create life with each movement of my being.

I dab optimistic colors when the canvas grows dull.

I bring various shades of black and white, to add a blend.

But when black consumes all colors, white masks the darkness of life.

Creating a balance of gray, is the peace within.

I tend to absorb bright colors naturally; gleaming.

I never limit myself, for the canvas can always be manipulated.

I try new mediums in this art to create uniqueness and chance.

I support creations within peoples minds, as they develop.

I am able to hold a voice to those left unspoken.

For I am crafted with love and care.

You may brush me off and not see my significance

but once you see the beauty I can create

you will think again my dear.

Peace at Last – River Writing Naration

The noises of traffic and clutter seem to flood out with the gushing of water hitting the rocks in the river. With each step I grow closer with my surroundings, able to hear my conscience once again. My lungs fill with clear air, allowing me to release of my stress and ambition.

Once I am covered with the shade of the trees growing above me, I feel my mind calm and my body almost float across the ground in relief. I stray away from people and let my self wander until I have found my place within nature. Hidden within the bushes and hanging trees are pathways of flattened ground created by footsteps of others. Leaving a divot in the dirt, I am lead to a small ledge where, the river meets the edge of the ground. Rocks are pilled along the sides of the edge as my feet dangled above the water. I noticed how the strength of the river eroded the ground beneath me.

As I ponder on my day today, my studies and my life at home my attention is drawn to the rippling water below me and ahead of me. The faint trickles of the water are barely heard as wobbly footsteps make rocks click together on the shore. Nobody can see me, I am hidden in the branches and leaves of the bush along side me. I am silent, I swing my legs gently above the waters surface almost touching my toes with the sky blue water. I glance below to see the skies reflection captured on the water as if a canvas. The skies beauty moving with the ripples and waves of the water, like a flag in the wind.

A tree with a light trunk and teardrop shaped leaves stood behind me stretching across the sky, as it shaded me from the warm yet bright sun. I feel the rush of a cold wind echo in my ear, quickly the wind’s hand flips the pages in my journal as if demanding me to keep writing. I continue writing, light at hand I scribble down a drawing of a tree at the top of my page.

I take in a deep breath as I grab a smoothed and flattened rock behind me. Placed within my hand as if to write I hold onto the stone, flicking it with my wrist and guiding it with my finger, it rotates like a flying disk. As it cuts in between the layers water, it skips across the river until it hits a thick wave and sinks to the bottom. I gaze all around me memorizing my spot. I slowly stand up, for now I must leave the world now needs me to come back to reality. Saddened I say goodbye to the kindness of the trees and peacefulness of the water. As I pace away I glance back to see the leaves on the trees waving farewell.
